Development History
21 July 2015: External inspection finds the ground floor retail units disused, upper floors appear also to be long-term disused. Downpipes are leaking, the concealed wallhead gutter may also be blocked or defective, causing areas of damp masonry with associated moss growth. Rear elevation not seen. Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for the conversion of 43 and 47-51 King Street into a public house and hotel were conditionally approved Sept 2012/ Sept 2013 ref: 12/00469/FUL & 12/00456/LBC. A Building Warrant for the associated work is currently being sought ref: 15/00264/NDOM6. Alert to monitor for re-use of the site.
20 April 2016: Public house/ hotel chain JD Wetherspoon is understood to have decided not to proceed with their plans to convert the site to a hotel. 43-51 King Street remains disused and is now being marketed for sale through agents CBRE. Move to At Risk.
27 June 2018: External inspection finds the shopfronts have been renewed and internal fit out completed, one unit is now back in use with the other being advertised for lease. Windows to upper floors have been repainted. Lack of staining/ algae growth suggests remedial works to rainwater goods have been carried out. The building would now appear to be in good condition externally.
8 September 2021: External inspection finds both shop units on ground floor in use. Upper storeys appear vacant. Condition of overall fabric remains good.
3 February 2023: Listed Building Consent (22/00810/LBC) and Planning Permission (22/00811/FUL) applications have been submitted to renovate the first floor offices and alter the second and third floors to form a serviced apartment hotel.
