Development History
1980: The lodge is vacated by its owner due to vandalism. April 1990: External inspection reveals the lodge to be derelict with most of its roof sarking exposed. The shell remains in good condition however, as the quality of the masonry is extremely high. SCT understands that the owner does not wish to sell, though he has no plans for the building himself. July 1995: No change reported. January 2001: Local planners report that they have spoken to the owner, who has no plans to repair or refurbish the property. However, local planners continue to try to encourage residential re-use. October 2001: External inspection reveals the worsening condition of the lodge.
October 2009: The new owner contacts SCT to advise that the entire Milton Lockhart Estate was purchased in December 2008 from Mr Ian Tennant. The Lodge House has deteriorated significantly since the last report and has no roof and approx half the walls have fallen in. It is the new owners' intention to restore this property as part of our larger plans for the estate (subject to certain conditions) and in the case of the lodge house it sits within an area designated SSSI status, which places additional restrictions on any development.
January 2010: External inspection finds the building is now roofless and in partly collapsed condition. The new owners of the estate have drawn up a proposed management plan as part of a detailed planning application for the Milton Lockhart Estate ref: (CL/09/0383)lodged in Sept 2009. The intention is to repair the lodge with a view to becoming an estate managers residence, with the possible addition of a extension.
October 2011: Local planners report stabilisation works for the lodge are planned to consilidate the structure in anticipation of a later restoration.
31 July 2013: External inspection finds the consolidation works (noted previously) have been carried out with wallheads/ crowsteps restored/ replaced and protected. Although remaining a ruin at this time, the structure is now at low risk.
15 July 2014: Listed Building Consent for reinstatement of roof, repointing/ repairs to walls and insertion of windows/ doors is being sought ref: CL/14/0273.
22 April 2016: A member of the public advises restoration works are now underway. The property has been re-roofed and stone repairs carried out. Moved to Restoration in Progress.
