Development History
December 2001: SCT understands that the property has been vacant for a number of years, and external inspection reveals that it is now beginning to shows signs of more serious deterioration, particularly to the stonework detailing. June 2005: Stirling Council reports that sale of the building will hopefully be concluded soon. October 2006: The Stirling Observer reports that the new owners Queens Hotel Bridge of Allan ltd are keen to renovate the listed building as an upmarket 'boutique hotel' with restaurant and private roof terrace. An application for licence has been defered until January to allow PP and LBC to be applied for. There have been a number of objections to the proposals but the owners are confident that whilst the site is challenging the plans will work.
March 2007: LBC is granted with conditions for alterations to the building to support a change of use to form a restaurant, bar and hotel. Ref 06/00784/LBC.
June 2008: External inspection finds the building to remain vacant. Some deterioration since the last site visit is in evidence, particuarly on paintwork to grd fl windows. The masonry porticos continue to decay. Some internal joinery appears to have been removed.
June 2009: External inspection finds no change from most recent site visit.
January 2011: Stirling City Heritage Trust
report works are on site to convert to boutique hotel. Works to windows, roof and stonework grant aided by Stirling City Heritage Trust.
Moved to Restoration in Progress.
12 September 2012: External inspection finds restoration work appear to have ceased at this point. Repairs have been made to stonework at ground floor level. Window frames have also been repaired.
2 July 2015: External inspection finds the building remains disused. No restoration works are currently underway.
8 June 2018: External inspection finds the property remains vacant. Overall in fair condition but with some increase in vegetation growth over doorpieces. A marketing sign is affixed advertising the property for sale through agent Christie & Co.
12 November 2019: Listed Building Consent for conversion to form a bar/restaurant and domestic accommodation is being sought (19/00767/LBC).
