Description
Probably of 1720 with 19th century wheel and modifications. Re-used 18th century marriage lintel to south (wheel) gable window. Coursed rubble, ashlar wheel gable. Skeleton of 4 spoke wood and iron high- breast or backshot wheel. Corrugated iron roof. Chamfered gable window jambs all appear re-used. Lintel dated 1720 with initials MML MMR. (Historic Scotland)
Ceased use around 1900, the dated lintel records the marriage of Malcolm Macleod and Mary Mackenzie of Applecross in 1713. The date 1720 probably coincides with the building of the "new" Raasay House. ( M.Miers)
The mill-pond, now dry, was fed by a lade which is still (1961) traceable, The mill was used for meal, but later became a timber mill and was last in use as a byre. ( Highland Council HER)

Development History
April 1999: External inspection reveals the mill to be ruinous. January 2000: Local planners report that they have received a number of enquiries regarding possible conversion to a dwelling. January 2001: Local planners report that the mill is to be purchased by the Raasay Heritage Trust. June 2003: Local planners report that permissions have been granted for conversion to a heritage centre. (ref: 02/00310/LBCSL & 02/00309/FULSL ) February 2005: Raasay Heritage Trust reports that it hopes to commence restoration in April.
September 2010: External inspection finds some works have been carried out on site. The structure has been consolidated. There could be other work ongoing at the site: it is understood the restoration of the former mill will in part be used to generate electricity. The waterwheel is not in situ. Moved to Restoration in Progress.
6 June 2013: External inspection finds restoration works continue with the extension in place.
22 February 2024: Raasay Heritage Trust's website is fundraising to complete the final stage of the restoration and extension of the former mill into a heritage centre.
