Development History
September 1990: SCT understands the cottage was last occupied 18 years ago. External inspection reveals that much of the thatch has now fallen from the roof, exposing the bare boards. The interior is derelict. 1992: Local planners reports that discussions have taken place with the owner with regards to restoration, although no formal application has been made as yet. North East Fife District Council has been unhappy about the suggestion of replacing thatch with slate, and has now indicated that it would be willing to provide grant aid towards thatch renewal. 16 November 1996: The Dundee Courier reports that a Repairs Notice is to be served. Windows and doors are open to the elements. The Friends of Thatched Houses have also offered some grant assistance. December 1997: Tayside Building Preservation Trust reports that it has entered into an agreement with the owner to purchase the cottage for £1 and restore it. The owner will then have first option to buy back the restored cottage or to enter into a profit share agreement should he not wish to purchase. February 2000: External inspection reveals the cottage to be increasingly derelict. December 2000: SCT understands that the TBPT purchase of the cottage has been delayed, though negotiations continue. TBPT hopes to temporarily roof the property and engage an architect in early 2001. Funds are being sought. September 2001: TBPT complete the reroofing of the lodge. February 2004: Historic Scotland reports that the building has been secured. Consents for restoration and alterations to form a dwelling are in place and part implemented. April 2004: Local planners report that funding is still being sought. August 2007: External inspection reveals that the building is a shell with scaffolding in place supporting a protective corrugated iron roof.
January 2011: External inspection finds no significant change from the last site visit. The building continues to deteriorate and is a cause for concern.
10 June 2014: External inspection finds the temporary roof remains intact. Vegetation growth is beginning to encroach the site.
22 September 2014: Historic Scotland advise the cottage has been de-listed.
2 May 2024: Desk-based assessment suggests the building remains At-Risk.
