Description

2-storey, 3-bay former railway station, harled W, TRACKSIDE, ELEVATION: altered porch, clock roundel over. Flanking margined windows, with dormerheads at 1st. Later lean-to extensions at S and E. Gabled slate roof, now without stacks. Sash and Case windows, 4-pane glazing pattern.

A wayside halt on Scotland's first passenger railway north of the Forth opened in 1831. There were apparently no platforms. (Historic Environment Scotland List Entry)

The building is thought to have been converted to residential use at some point in the 1860s, following decommission as a railway station, the rear extensions, in brick possibly being added at this time to house a kitchen and bathroom. The access to the attic bedrooms is via a modern Ramsay ladder, one of the bedrooms has a recess providing access to the clock mechanism in the roundel. The property is thought to have been occupied upto the 1990s.(Swan)

Development History
June 2002: Local planners bring the property to the attention of the Buildings at Risk Service. Unoccupied probably since the early 1990s, it now sits within the grounds of Kings Cross Hospital and is boarded up and disused. There has been some press coverage over concerns for its future. Local planners have asked Historic Scotland to consider upgrading its listing status. 3 May 2004: The Dundee Evening Telegraph reports on the building's inclusion on the Buildings at Risk Register. 4 May 2004: The Dundee Courier repeats the story. July 2004: Local planners report that the building remains secure and appears to be wind and watertight. February 2005: Conservation Plan prepared by MSc student (Zac Manning) from University of Dundee.
March 2010: External inspection finds the building remains derelict. It is boarded up. The roof is deteriorating: a number of slates are slipped or lost, especially on the single storey section to the rear. The rear gutters require to be cleaned.
15 March 2016: External inspection finds the building in deteriorating condition. The main roof has slipped/ missing roof slates, the lean to roof has developed a hole. Rainwater goods are missing in part, extant sections are rusting in places. Areas of dampness to the walls are evident and the render to the lean-to is flaking off exposing the brick walls. Openings remain boarded.
