Description

Large, classifically detailed, quadrangular steading, with 2-stage rusticated ashlar fronted tower and birdcage bellcote over vehicular entrance pend. Square and pinned rubble with rubble base course and granite ashlar dressings.S range. 3-pane, vertical glazing to 1st floor windows. Grey slates, coped ashlar stacks; 2 stacks above pend to N.

According to Simpson, the steading is dated on the belfry; this is now difficult to see. Built by General Duff, who lived at Carnousie Castle 1790-1804, and was "enclosing his mains" in 1792 (OSA).(Historic Scotland)

Development History
August 2007: Drawn to the attention of the Scottish Civic Trust by local planners.
May 2006: Full Planning Permission applied for to convert the Steading to Form 5 Dwellinghouses and Business Space, also included in the plans are conversion of Smiddy to Form 1 further Dwellinghouse and Erection of 1 new build Dwellinghouse, under plans draw up by Simpson & Brown architects.
February 2008: External inspection finds the building to be in very poor condition, however restoration plans have been submitted to Local Planners.
August 2010: Listed Building Consent for Change of Use and Conversion of
Steading to Form 5 No. Dwellinghouses, Conversion of Smiddy to Form 1 No.
Dwellinghouse and Erection of Garages is lodged, ref: APP/2010/2328.
November 2010: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit.
23 October 2013: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously. The complex has recently been marketed for sale as a development opportunity.
