Development History
November 2009: Inspection reveals that the sandstone masonry of the structure is heavily eroded.
March 2012: Local planners report the building remains at risk.
11 May 2012: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit, stone erosion continues. Local planners report they have previously met with the local custodians of the harbour to offer some practical advice on how to protect the structure, including addressing health and safety concerns, ways to preserve the lighthouse and some pointers for funding routes. A structural engineer also made a site visit at the time and noted the extreme erosion of the soft sandstone was now at the point where continuing structural integrity was in some doubt.
16 September 2014: Inspection finds the structure continues to erode. Dunure Community Action Plan 2014-2019 notes that Dunure Harbour Committee Association Ltd is working with Ailsa Horizons seeking funding towards restoration and interpretation work to the lighthouse tower together with its occulting wall, and the west wall of the harbour.
