2 storey end terrace building with gable and slated roof. Stone built and rendered with semi-cirvular stair extension to the rear.
Port Ellen is a planned village of gable to gable houses ranged around the sheltered bay of Loch Leodamais. Founded in 1821 by Walter Frederick Campbell, who named it Port Ellinor in honour of his wife. Although the herring industry did not bring immediate success, the settlement prospered as a small port serving the nearby distilleries. Charlotte Street is an austerely ordered corridor of gable-to-gable, three bay houses, early 19th century, each frontage identical in plot width. (FA Walker)

Development History
October 2009: External inspection finds the building, an important end terrace building, appears to be vacant. Work to rehabilitate the building may have stalled.
6 June 2012: External inspection finds serious decay is now evident with roof coversings stripped and window boarding missing. The house is not weathertight and is decaying rapidly. Full Planning Permission for demolition of existing dwellinghouse, erection of replacement dwellinghouse and formation of vehicular access, was lodged but withdrawn ref: 11/01376/PP. Partial demolition with new build behind a retained facade was conditionally approved April 2012 ref:12/00055/PP.
