Development History
24 August 2012: A member of the public nominates the building for the Register advising buddleias are growing from masonry, issues with water ingress which have been increasing over the last 5 years. Full Planning Permission ( 12/01553/DC) and Listed Building Consent for Internal and external alterations to listed building to form guest house and erection of three storey side extension are currently being sought. The documents submitted for the consents document the problems with water ingress and note the building was last in use as a religious centre until this ceased around 2008. The building is currently vacant. Set to For Investigation.
25 October 2013: Local planners advise the building remains disused. Condition consent for external/ internal works to convert to a guest house were granted Feb 2013 but no works have yet started.
3 March 2014: External inspection finds works are underway at the site. Moved to NFR.
24 July 2018: Nominated for the Register by a member of the public. Previous repair works are advised as having stalled. Taurpaulin convering remains to roof, where windows were removed, openings are now blocked over and there is damage to a gable. Vegetation is taking a hold to the property. Moved back to For Investigation.
20 August 2018: A member of the public nominates the building for the Register as a stalled development.
13 December 2018: Local planners advise all works connected with the previous scheme appear to have ceased and the building's condition is deteriorating. Glasgow City Council forward an image of the building in 2016 at which point the roof appeared to be covered with a tarpaulin - its continued effectiveness is uncertain. Moved back to At Risk, risk moved to Moderate and condition to poor.
9 February 2021: A member of the public advises that the building continues to deteriorate at pace. There is broken glass in an upper window on the eastern gable and there are concerns that the building is dangerous.
25 April 2022: A member of the public advises the building continues to deteriorate, notably to the roof which has been subject to collapse.
14 March 2023: Member of the public reports that the building is continuing to deteriorate, with the roof on the Bank Street side now totally collapsed.
4 May 2023: External inspection confirms that the roof has collapsed and the condition of the building has deteriorated. Some window frames have been completely lost and those intact suffer from broken glazing. An opening on the east elevation has been partially covered with timber sheeting, but this has begun to fail, leaving the opening unsecured. There is vegetation growth and signs of damp on the masonry. The site is secured by fencing and safety signage has been posted. Condition moved to Ruinous and Risk moved to High.
22 August 2024: Listed Building Consent for the removal of roof and internal fabric, with installation of a temporary propping scheme, is being sought (24/01846/LBA). The application states that proposals for restoring the building will be brought forward separately.
