Description
'Gothick': a simplified version of Castle House. 1 storey. Stugged ashlar, painted; gabled slate roof, piended at one end. 2-sided bay-window with crenellated wall-head. Parapet, with apex gablet above bay-window. High chimneys with incised cruciform ornaments. 4 gate-piers crenellated; joined by curved screen walls with splayed cope. (Historic Scotland)

Development History
Despite good location on Esplanade overlooking water, lodge lies vacant and boarded-up.

October 2008: External inspection finds the building vacant and boarded up once more. It is in fair condition at present. There is a hole in the rear roof, slipped slates and blocked gutters which give cause for concern.
June 2009: Local Authority contact BARR to confirm that the building is in Argyll and Bute Council ownership. The Council is considering seeking grant assistance through Town Centre Regeneration Fund.
December 2009: External inspection finds this prominent building is on the cusp of deteriorating rapidly, action now would save major expenditure later.
31 August 2012: External inspection finds the roof is now in state of near collapse and the walls are very damp. Part of the building is now fenced off.
3 September 2012: Local planners report the lodge's roof is potentially close to collapse.
13 January 2015: Local planners advise that the condition of roof has deteriorated. Argyll and Bute Council is considering options for temporary repair.
30 January 2017: A member of the public advises the property is now roofless.
9 March 2017: Listed Builing Consent to stabilise the walls and reinstate the roof is being sought ref: 17/00202/LIB.
19 March 2019: The property has been re-roofed, but remains disused. Condition moved to Fair and Risk to Low.
20 August 2021: Listed building consent (21/01349/LIB) and planning permission (21/01351/PP) being sought for alterations to form active travel hub, including installation of replacement windows and doors, formation of access ramp with canopy and erection of bike store and bin store and removal of paint on gate piers/wall and internal alterations.
