Description

Possibly a remodelling of an earlier 18th century cottage, the lodge is built on a rectangular-plan in rubble with a large off-centre window to each of long elevation. Doors sit in the gables, with a later timber porch to the south. The slate roof features overhanging eaves and decorative bargeboarding. A tall square-section stack sits at the wallhead to the rear. Vermiculated gatepiers sit to the front. The masonry appears to incorporate part of a Pictish stone. (Historic Environment Scotland List Entry)

Development History
July 2002: Local planners bring the lodge to the attention of the Buildings at Risk Service. February 2003: External inspection reveals that the lodge is vacant and boarded up. Much of the slate work is now missing, particularly around the chimney stack. Guttering and downpipes are broken, and the building shows signs of vandalism. 3 May 2004: The Dundee Evening Telegraph reports on the building's inclusion on the Buildings at Risk Register. 4 May 2004: The Dundee Courier repeats the story. July 2004: Local planners report that the building is now enclosed by metal fencing. It roof continues to deteriorate and the building remains a great concern.
February 2010: External inspection finds the building is still considered to be in very poor condition. The roof is in very poor condition, especially on the east pitch when it has been partly lost. Timber eaves are rotting. Rainwater goods are lost. The entrance porch is in very poor condition. Local planners report that HLF funding has been secured for a Conservation Plan for the property.
27 May 2016: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously.
