Development History

July 2002: Local planners bring the building to the attention of the Buildings at Risk Service.
February 2003: External inspection reveals that the Nethergate elevation appears to be in reasonable condition, with shops to each side of the entrance and the upper floors occupied. However, the Marketgait block facing Scott's Close is in poor condition. All openings have been blocked and there is evidence of damp and vegetation growth to the stonework.
3 May 2004: The Dundee Evening Telegraph reports on the building's inclusion in the Buildings at Risk Register 2004-2005.
4 May 2004: The Dundee Courier repeats the story. November 2004: Local planners report that the condition of the building is deteriorating, although the upper floors remain in occasional use.

October 2008: Local planners advise the building lies within the Central Conservation Area within the City of Dundee.
November 2008: The Dundee edition of the Courier and Advertiser reports that St David‘s Halls has been the recipient of a grant from Dundee Historic Environment Trust. The works undertaken were emergency repairs to ensure the building stays wind and watertight. These included; installation of rainwater goods, re-pointing and new windows.
December 2009: The building remains largely disused, though it is now wind and watertight thanks to the repairs of 2008. In the ground floor, the plaster work on the walls and ceiling is in very poor condition. New floors in the level above can be seen in a number of places through the fabric of the old ceilings.
March 2010: External inspection finds no change from the last site visit.
27 May 2016: Limited external inspection possible. From what could be viewed the building would appear to be wind and watertight following the grant-aided works noted previously, and remain in partial use as a masonic hall. Parts of the interior are understood to remain in poor condition as internal repair/ re-instatement has yet to take place. A Dundee Evening Telegraph article (13 Jan 2015) noted a proposal by Dundee Friends Property Trust, working working Tayside Building Preservation Trust, to potentially acquire and convert the building into a Quaker meeting place. Condition moved to Poor.
28 October 2020: BARR is advised renovation works in the building are to commence.
5 April 2024: St David's Restoration social media pages notes works are underway. Move to Restoration in Progress.
