Development History
July 1998: SCT receives reports that the hotel was damaged by fire a few years ago and has suffered vandalism. It is now owned by a consortium of 6 people. External inspection reveals the property to be unsecured, with several windows smashed. The grounds and gazebo are strewn with litter. SCT understands that the owner of a nearby property has expressed an interest in restoring the hotel. June 2001: External inspection reveals no change. 17 May 2002: The Clyde Weekly News reports on the hotel's inclusion in the Buildings at Risk Bulletin. 13 May 2004: The Helensburgh Advertiser reports on the hotel's inclusion on the Buildings at Risk Register.
June 2009: SCT is contacted by a member of the public who advises that whilst they are aren't sure of the stables and gazebo, the main hotel building has been completely re-developed and has been converted to flats. There are various other new buildings in the grounds of the hotel.
December 2009: External inspection finds the gazebo may be planned for renovation, as the former hotel has now been converted into housing, with some new build within the grounds. The gazebo is potentially vulnerable to damage from site traffic.
25 October 2012: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit but ivy growths are now a concern. The surrounding redevelopment of the former hotel into hotel with associated new build houses, appears to be nearing completion. Road formation and landscaping has yet to be completed.
