Description
Long rectangular market hall with advanced 3-bay gabled entrance to street. Coursed rubble frontage with polished ashlar dressings rubble flanks. Paired round-headed entrances under hoodmould decorated with
heads of cattle, sheep, and sheaf of corn with potato and turnip. Flanked by round-headed windows and 3 long similar windows above. Corbelled eaves course; overhanging eaves; slate roof with vent running length of hall. One pair decorative stacks survive.
Later octagonal sales ring not listed. Photograph of interior of hall in auction room office, dated 1883 and taken on occasion of County Party. Built as Agricultural Hall by Forres Agricultural Hall Joint Stock Co Ltd, originally as a corn exchange. (Historic Scotland)

Development History
January 2006: January 2006: LPA contact SCT requesting the building be placed on the buildings at risk register. The owner has applied to demolish the building.
23 March 2006: the Forres Gazettee carries the story.

16 August 2012: External inspection finds the building continues to be disused. There is damage to eaves in several areas and rainwater goods are in poor condition with vegetation growths and breakages. One of window panes to the front elevation is broken. Otherwise the building is in fair condition. Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for demolition and the erection of 24 flats were approved May 2010 ref: 08/01954/FUL & 08/01955/LBC
13 July 2015: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously. A 5 year extension of previously granted permissions for the demolition of the building and replacement with 24 flats was granted April 2015 ref: 15/00371/LBC
7 December 2016: A member of the public notes demolition works are now underway. The proposal, previously noted as full demolition, includes the retention of the mart's facade. Moved to Restoration in Progress.
28 August 2020: A member of the public notes downtaking of much of the building, with retention of the facade, completed but no further works have been undertaken. Condition moved to ruinous, record moved back to At Risk.
2 June 2022: A member of the public advises the site remains undeveloped at this time.
