Description

2 storey stone built former warehouse with piended slated roof. Narrow frontage to street but long side elevation to yard to east. Appears on the 1st edition OS (1:2;500 series) map. The OS large scale Scottish town plan for Edinburgh (1894) notes the building as a bonded store . Would seem to appear on the 1822 Thomson plan of Leith as (merchants) R&J Cockburn.

Development History
November 2011: External inspection finds the building vacant and with doors and windows blocked off. Full planning permission for alterations to existing public house to form 6 flats was refused July 2006 ref: 06/01619/FUL
17 February 2015: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously. All window openings are boarded up.
27 February 2019: Local planners note the property was previously (2017) marketed for sale.
27 November 2019: A member of the public notes an application to certify the existing lawful use of the site as a Public House was refused August 2018 (18/01504/CLE).
20 December 2019: A member of the public note a public consultation event is to be held in January 2020 on behalf of JD Wetherspoon PLC, on proposals to adapt the site to form a customer garden area for the adjacent Foot of the Walk public house.
12 October 2020: External inspection finds this building in much the same condition as seen previously. Vegetation growths and some slipped slates visible on roof. Rainwater goods in need of maintenance - blocked gutters. Signs of deterioration on external walls (flaking paint). Dampness and vegetation growths visible. Building is secured, all openings are boarded up with one metal security door in place. Deterioration continues. Remains At Risk.
