Development History
May 2009: A member of the public contacts SCT to report the condition of this building. This is a public house & hotel which was built in 1869. This building has stood empty for over a year and a planning application was submitted on 21st April to demolish the building and erect flats in it place. Since this planning application was submitted, a fire has gutted the main part of it and the upper floors and roof were completely removed. At present the building is a shell with windows and doors boarded up but no protection from the elements where the roof has gone.
October 2009: Planning application for demolition of existing hotel and erection of 12 flatted dwellings was withdrawn in June 2009.
May 2010: A member of the public contacts SCT to advise that a new application was lodged for demolition of the hotel in favour of a 12 flatted new build. ref: 09/02930/FULL.
August 2010: External inspection finds no significant change from the previous site visit.
April 2011: The application for erection of flats, ref: 09/02930/FULL, remains undetermined.
10 May 2013: A member of the public advises the property is noted as being Under Offer through agents DM Hall.
27 August 2013: A member of the public advises a new application for use of the site has been submitted to Fife Council. Full Planning Permission for change of to a car wash and sales area has been submitted ref: 13/01286/FULL. The application notes that Full Planning Permission for demolition of the former hotel in favour of new build flats has already been granted (conditionally granted subject to legal agreements March 2012). Demolition of the hotel is noted to be planned to commence in the near future, but that redevelopment of the site into flats is unlikely to immediately commence due to the economic climate. Risk Level moved to Critical as demolition has been approved.
27 May 2014: External inspection finds the building remains in much the same condition as seen previously.
25 January 2023: The Courier on October 19th 2022 reported that a planning application has been submitted to create 5 flats on the upper floors, with two retail units at the ground level.(22/02574/FUL)
14 March 2023: The courier on 14th March 2023 reports that planning permission has been conditionally granted to convert the hotel into 5 flats with 2 retail units at ground level. (22/02574/FULL)
23 October 2023: A member of the public informs us that the hotel is now in advanced stages of renovation.
27 October 2023: A member of the public informs us that the hotel is now in advanced stages of renovation. Moved to Restoration in Progress.
