Description

Single storey stone built terraced cottage, rendered to street elevation with corrugated sheet roof.

Port Wemyss was founded by Walter Frederick Campbell of Islay, 1833 as Wemysshaven, named after his father-in-law, Francis, 8th Earl of Wemyss and March. The street layout follows a D-plan; could this be in memory of "Great Daniel" the Glasgow tobacco lord, Daniel Campbell, Laird of Islay, 1726-53? The settlement is entirely residential, the original houses being single storey and loft set gable-to-gable along the streets. (FA Walker)

Development History
October 2009: External inspection finds the cottage is no longer wind and water tight; the corrugated roof sheet are deteriorating and missing in part to the rear elevation.
June 2011: The neighbour of the adjacent property advises this cottage is number 10, not 9, record updated accordingly.
6 June 2012: External inspection finds minor roof repairs have been carried out to the rear to cover the hole in the roof. Otherwise, no change.
23 June 2021: A descendant of the last occupant contacts BARR to advise they have been attempting to resolve issues around the title deeds to the site. They retain an ambition to bring the cottage back into use.
