Development History
January 2011: A member of the public nominates the building for inclusion on the Register. It is advised as having been vacant for some time & condition is deteriorating. Set to For Investigation.
11 March 2012: External inspection finds the building is in very poor condition. A tree is growing in the interior, projecting through the partially collapsed west roof. The north roof has lost a significant number of slates. Plants are colonising the walls at a number of points. The property was marketed for sale by South Ayrshire Council in 2011 as a development opportunity. Moved to At Risk.
17 September 2013: A member of the public advises the former lodge has been sold, along with Belleisle Hotel, to a development company. Listed Building Consent for alterations and for replacement windows have been lodged with South Ayrshire Council ref: 13/00504/LBC & 13/00768/LBC. No applications for the former lodge have been lodged as yet. Local planners report the lodge remains in deteriorating condition.
31 March 2014: A member of the public advises works including the removal of all vegetation and restoration of the roof appear to be underway.
12 September 2014: External inspection finds works to repair the roof has commenced - thought to be works to make the property wind and watertight in anticipation of future restoration and conversion works.
5 February 2016: A member of the public advises no further renovation works have been carried out at the site. Unprotected elements of the previously carried out works have also deteriorated.
21 June 2019: External inspection finds the lodge remains disused. Repair works (noted previously) appear to have stalled with the felted roof now ripping in places. Lead flashing has lifted around the base of the central chimney. The extension to the rear is now a roofless shell. The main entrance is boarded over but another opening is unprotected leaving the interior open to the elements. There is extensive vegetation growth within the wider plot starting to encroaching the building. Condition moved to Poor and Risk to Moderate.
28 April 2023: Local planners report planning permission is being sought to bring the lodge back into use as a dwellinghouse (reference 23/00260/APP).
10 May 2023: Local planners report consent to bring the building back into residential use has been conditionally approved.
