Development History
1 December 2012: External inspection finds a traditional building in generally fair condition but which has been vacant for some time. The broken skylight will be a source of water penetration and the structural crack to the east of the facade is a cause for concern. The broken window at upper floor level has been poorly blocked up. The property is being marketed for sale, offers invited, through agent Graham & Sibbald. Full planning permission for change of use and extension to form dental surgery was lodged, but withdrawn May 2010 ref: 10/00226/FULL & 10/00247/LBC. Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for Conversion and Extension of Former Hotel to Provide Dental Practice (Re-Application) were conditionally approved July 2010 ref: 10/00582/FULL & 10/00585/LBC.
3 April 2013: The property remains under marketing for sale.
11 June 2015: A member of the public notes a recent (23/5/2015) article in the Dundee Telegraph outlining plans by a developer to convert the former hotel to flats and a shop unit with the creation of 2 cottages and a house to the rear of the plot.
29 June 2015: Listed Building Consent for partial demolition of the building and conversion of the remainder to retail unit and flat over, with new build dwellings to the rear, is being sought ref: 15/00535/LBC.
10 March 2016: A member of the public reports works appear to have commenced at the former hotel. Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for partial demolition and redeveopment into flats/ retail unit, with accompanying new build, were conditionally approved Nov & Aug 2015 ref:
15/00533/FULL & 15/00535/LBC. A Building Warrant for the demolitions and building work have also been sought ref: 15/01087/NDOM5 & 16/00148/DOM1. Moved to Restoration in Progress.
27 May 2016: External inspection finds restoration works continue with the property scaffolded to Bank Street.
15 February 2017: The Courier reports (26/1/2017) on the application of an Urgent Works Notice by Angus Council following the cessation of restoration works at the site. Moved back to At Risk.
